Edenmore Bog Walk

Edenmore Bog Walk offers an outdoor side of Ballinamuck quite separate from the village’s 1798 history.

The route passes through the raised-bog landscape around the village. Open sky, peat and low-growing vegetation give a different experience from the county’s woodland trails.

Visit Longford describes Edenmore as a 4.5 km loop and identifies it as a moderate walking route. The distance is short enough for a half-day outing but weather and ground conditions still matter.

The battle of 1798 is interpreted at Ballinamuck Visitor Centre, where local guides may be available by arrangement. The bog loop and a historical tour have separate starting points and purposes.

Boglands are living habitats as well as places marked by past industries. Sticking to the published loop is safer and causes less disturbance than improvising a route across open peat. Use the current visitor trail information for wayfinding and any temporary route closures.

BEFORE YOU GO

The 4.5 km loop is graded moderate in the county walking information. Keep to the waymarked route through the bog; the Ballinamuck battlefield and visitor centre are separate visits.
