Newtownforbes Bog Walk

A new path from Newtownforbes gives the village a way into the bog and woodland on its doorstep.

Completed in 2023, the 1.83 km bog walk was developed with Newtownforbes Tidy Towns and Longford County Council. The route takes in grassland, stretches of forestry and bog habitat.

The county council describes access from across the GAA grounds, a loop towards the far end of the trail and a return towards the village by a quiet lane.

Benches and picnic tables have been installed along the route. They make it useful for a short local outing rather than a demanding hike, though the surface and bog conditions still matter after rain.

Follow the current signs on site, respect adjoining land and check the council’s description if you are visiting for the first time.
