Corlea Bog Walk

A walk at Corlea lets you experience the raised-bog landscape that preserved the area’s famous oak road.

The bog is not just the backdrop to an archaeological find. Its peat, wet ground and changing vegetation are part of the reason the 148 BC wooden trackway survived at all.

Visit Longford gives 8.6 km as the combined length of the walking loops, with a separate 1.5 km link towards the Royal Canal. Choose one option using the route map rather than treating all those distances as a single short circuit.

The path passes through natural bog vegetation and an open landscape where weather can be felt more than in a sheltered wood.

Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre is nearby and displays an 18-metre section of the original oak roadway. Its seasonal guided exhibition and the public outdoor walk have different arrangements.

Stay on marked routes to protect sensitive bog habitat and avoid unsafe wet ground.
